This isn’t your grandmother’s craft party! The current exhibiting artists push the boundaries of what craft can by using concepts that question social and political concerns. These artist receptions and art parties are designed for you to self-curate your own art experience. Happenings is a FREE event open to the public so bring your friends! And, Happenings #8 is a party that you won’t want to miss! ***FREE SCREENING*** Happenings 8 will also feature a screening of the Jazz Loft According To W. Eugene Smith in the Hub (located on the +15 level of Arts Commons outside Jack Singer Concert Hall) at 7pm as part of International Jazz Day. Admission to the film is free on a first come, first served basis. John Charles Reid from the Canadian Music Centre will be hosting a talk back after the show. During Happenings 8, we are celebrating the following exhibitions in the Arts Commons galleries: The Ledge Gallery: Eveline Kolijn Window Galleries: Dayna Ellen, Felicity Hart, Jocelyn Reid, Violet Costello Broadcast Lab (formerly Gallery of Alberta Media Arts): Mary-Anne McTrowe, The Bum Family, Rosanna Terracciano Lightbox Studio: Chelsea Ruston +15 Soundscape: Aidan Lytton Featuring… + Pop-up Market with Market Collective! Come check out the specially curated artists, artisans, makers and shakers for Happenings #8! + Don’t have a loom at home? No worries! Natalie Lauchlan will show you how to create a miniature weave that you can create anywhere! + Learn traditional beading art forms with multi-disciplinary Kainai (Blackfoot) artist Jared Tailfeathers! + Live copper weaving demonstration with Anna Burger-Martindale! + Roll up your sleeves and help collaborative with Stash Needle Art Lounge to create a "Pom Pom Installation"! + Checkout Maker’s Fair and make a LED throwie! So many more opportunities to engage with artists and the work that they create. There will also be live performances throughout the evening and artist talks lead by Pete Meadows founder of Tiny Gallery. Thirsty? Well there will be a CASH BAR!
